Where have we been? I know it’s been a while since the last blog post and I have a lot of catching up to do. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and were really hoping that Megan would make her appearance while everyone was still here but she had other plans. (Big surprise huh?) My sister and her family left Sunday night and were very disappointed they were not able to be here for the birth. We felt the same but assured them we would call when she decided she was ready. We even joked that she would probably come when they were on their way home or when they had just gotten home.
Not to disappoint I awoke Monday morning around 3:30 to contractions that were about 17 minutes apart. I kinda laughed at the thought of it but ended up going back to sleep sure that it was just a false alarm like so many times before. Throughout the day the contractions remained pretty consistent but would never get closer than 10 minutes apart. I called the doctor twice and they kept telling me they didn’t want to see me until the contractions got down to the magic “5 minutes”. I was a little annoyed but there wasn’t much I could do so I continued on with my day.
Matt came home and asked if I wanted him to drive me to school so I could turn in my assignment and leave. I told him no and assured him that when the contractions got too unbearable or any closer together I would leave. I can’t miss more than 1 class and I had a feeling it was going to be the next Monday since the doctor said he would try an induction Saturday, December 5th. While I was in class the contractions started to be a little irregular. Sometimes they were 10 minutes, sometimes they were 6… there was no consistency. After 2 contractions 6 minutes apart I couldn’t take sitting anymore. I turned my assignment in and left.
On the way home I felt like the contractions were getting closer together but it was so hard to concentrate on timing them and driving in the dark in the rain. I called mom and had her time them. Much to my surprise they were much closer! 2-3 minutes! I called Matt told him to take Gavin to a friend’s house and we headed to the hospital. We got to the hospital and they checked me immediately and told me I was 5 cm. I immediately wanted drugs! (Another big surprise right?) Before they could get the IV in me and send for drugs I had already completely dilated. No drugs for me! Yeah right! I was MAD and boy was I MEAN! (Really sorry about that to all those Rex Hospital nurses) Needless to say Megan was born in 25 minutes. I believe it was put to me… that’s faster than if you had gone in to sit down and eat at a restaurant!
It was a whirlwind of events and the last few days have definitely been a learning curve for everybody but we are so happy she is here and healthy! We have been so blessed by the amazing amount of love poured out to us by friends and family! Thanks to all of you!
Here are just a few pictures of the new bundle of joy!
